Before the Mississippi-bound water from the Continental Divide reaches the grand lake, it spills over Saint Mary Falls and Virginia Falls. The Upper Virginia Fall is over 80 feet high and descends into this cascading set of falls before moving downwards to Saint Mary Falls prior to the lake. Shreve Captured this scene by traversing the water over an old dead tree log laying over the water as a bridge to line up with the cascading water on a fall day.
