The Provence region of Southeastern France is filled with culture, food, and wine. The inhabitants of this area date back many millennia. Lavender or “Lavandin” was brought to Provence by the Romans, 2,000 years ago and the spontaneous growth of the plant in the region on large areas was due to favorable climatic conditions. In the Middle Ages lavender began to be used by locals, and at the end of the 19th century it was cultivated on the hills of Provence. Moustiers Sainte-Marie, located in Provence, has been listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France. Shreve captured this image of the Lavender in full bloom just south of Moustiers Sainte-Marie as the sun rose over the eastern sky.
