Caddo Lake is a geological oddity in the state of Texas. Being the only natural lake in the state it holds a special place in the heart of many Texans. Formed in 1800 due to a massive 80 mile log jam on the Red River that flooded the great Louisiana cypress valley. This logjam was first recorded by Spanish explorers as far back as 1691. Mr. Shreve's ancestor, Henry Miller Shreve, was famed for leading the clearing this logjam and founding Shreveport, Louisiana.
